Bruce E. Bigler

Bruce E. Bigler, a founding partner of the firm, is one of the most highly respected defense attorneys in Michigan. He is regularly called upon by the firm’s clients to defend personal injury matters of the most serious nature throughout the State.


Over the past three decades, Mr. Bigler has devoted his trial skills to the defense of the firm’s clients, which include hospitals and doctors throughout the state of Michigan. He is knowledgeable in all fields of alleged medical malpractice, with special concentration in obstetrics. His talents have resulted in not only the successful defense of dozens of trials, but also hundreds of cases that have been resolved by means of summary judgment motions and favorable settlements.


Mr. Bigler is a member of the American Board of Trial Advocates with an Advocate rating. His outstanding peer ratings have made him an AV attorney in Martindale Hubbell and a Michigan Super Lawyer in 2006 and 2007.

Lori A. Barker

Lori A. Barker graduated from James Madison College at Michigan State University with degrees in International Relations and Economics. She attended Wayne State University Law School where she received Book Awards in Corporations and Securities and Trusts and Decedent’s Estates.


Since completing law school, Mrs. Barker has devoted her practice to litigation of medical professional liability and employment law issues. Since 1994 her practice has largely been devoted to the defense of medical professionals and healthcare systems. She has particular expertise in birth trauma, anesthesiology, neurosurgery and emergency medicine issues.


She has been a speaker and panelist at numerous seminars for the medical and legal communities speaking on issues of medical defense, litigation techniques and preparation. She is a member of the State Bar of Michigan, serving in its Negligence and Healthcare Law Sections. She is a Member and Hearing Panelist of the Michigan Attorney Discipline Board and the Oakland County Bar Association. Mrs. Barker is a recent nominee to the American Board of Trial Advocates.

Diane K. O’Leary

Diane O’Leary graduated with distinction from Wayne State University in 1974. She received a Board of

Governors Scholarship and was elected to the Mortar Board. She was inducted into Phi Beta Kappa.


Ms. O’Leary undertook graduate work at Eastern Michigan University in 1976 and 1977, concentrating in

English language and composition. She is a former college writing instructor and is conversational in French and Spanish.


Ms. O’Leary graduated from Cooley Law School in 1984 near the top of her class. While at Cooley she was a recipient of the Women’s Law Caucus Scholarship and was regularly on the Dean’s List and Honor Roll. She was a member of the Cooley Law Review.

Dianna L. Caywood

Dianna Caywood joined the firm as an associate attorney in May of 2008 with eleven years of experience handling medical malpractice claims. She completed her undergraduate studies at Rutgers University where she received the coveted Jack Marvin Weiner Award and was selected to attend the Center of the Study of the Presidency in Washington, D.C. She received her JD from the State University of New York at Buffalo in 1996 and practiced in Buffalo, New York for 9 years where she became a senior trial attorney and then partner.


After moving to Michigan in 2005, Ms. Caywood worked as a senior trial attorney, responsible for management of all litigation files. She gained specialized knowledge and experience in medical malpractice defense as well as prisoner rights defense. She is a highly successful negotiator in all aspects of settlement, arbitration and mediation matters. 


Ms. Caywood has always been active in community activities. She is a former Secretary of the New York State Trial Lawyers; a former Chair of the Judiciary Committee of the Woman’s Bar Association of the State of New York. She often does speaking engagements, seminars and lectures.
